Business Writing Skills

Business writing should be precise and succinct rather than creative; it stresses specificity and accuracy. Writing in a business environment requires writing with a unique purpose because you must assume that your audience has limited time in which to read it and is likely just to skim the document. Your readers have an interest in what you say insofar as it affects their working world. They want to know the "bottom line"; the point you are making about a situation or problem and how they should respond.

In this course learn how to create business documents that say what you mean and achieve the results you want. This course not only covers the basics of how to improve your writing skills but also how to achieve the right result from your written correspondence. The purpose of this one-day training course is to provide people with the skills to communicate accurately and effectively to their readers in business English. The training course focuses on using correct language and grammar as well as pointing out common language mistakes that are often made and deals with electronic and non-electronic written communication.

  • Understand your audience
  • Use positive words and phrases
  • How to begin and end business writing
  • The magic of 5 "w's" and 1 "h"
  • Understand and implement proper e-mail etiquette
  • Basic report writing techniques

In business, impressions are everything. And the impressions we make, and leave people with, via written communication, can make or break. The problem is that so many business people don't have the confidence they need to write cleanly and effectively for workplace purposes – and who can blame them? This stuff isn't taught at school, or at varsity. It comes with practice, on top of a fundamental skill set.

Happily, the dilemma ends here. This popular one-day business writing skills workshop is designed to teach you everything you need to know in order to be a confident writer: from style and tone, using tact and keeping it short, through simplicity and accuracy, to mastering the delicate arts of proof-reading and editing.

The workshop is hands-on, outcomes-based and highly interactive. Business writing ability isn't a nice-to-have skill; it's a corporate imperative. And if it isn't part of your professional toolbox at the moment, you need to develop it – fast.
